Abstract

This research is a preliminary study which aims to describe the form and meaning of the affixes in Wewewa language spoken in Palla, and to describe the affixation process of the affixes found. The affixation process of the found affixes was modelled and analysed using the traditional theory, that is morpheme-based morphology theory of morphemes (Hocket, 1954). The data used by researchers in this study were primary data and secondary data. Primary data in this study were monologues such as folklore, oral history, ritual speech, and dialogue. Data collection techniques used in this study were recording and elicitation. The recorded data was transcribed. Based on the results of this preliminary research, several things can be concluded. First, the number of affixes found was three prefixes, namely the causative prefix pa-, the reciprocal prefix pa- and the anti-causative prefix ma-. Second, clitics are more pervasive than affixes in Wewewa. Third, morpheme-based morphology theory can easily explain the affixation process of the three prefixes.
